What is the most valuable skill a person can have for their entire life?

Answer by Bijaya Biswal:

Self-evaluation.

Am I doing as much as I should? Or is it worth some more effort?
Which opinions and suggestions should I let in, and which ones should I pass?
Am I following the routine I made for myself? Or was is just another new year resolution meant to be forgotten?

I find self evaluation to be a very valuable skill.
Because you don't need to depend on anyone else to be shown the reality or to be shown an assumed, less accurate reality.
Failure becomes unnecessary for you because you have regular learning experiences anyways.
And also, you validate your own self and are responsible to no one at all.

What is the most valuable skill a person can have for their entire life?

Answer by Rishi Mathur:

The ability to tolerate the heat of the moment and let your mind make a reply not your temper.Sometimes just to tolerate and not reply is the best thing to do.For example, when my parents are scolding me for what according to their perception is right, I cannot bear and make a reply which leads to more conflict, but now I practice to bear and not to reply at all. I have realized that just delaying your explanations makes things simple.

Answer by Rahul Kandalam:

To forgive.

Yes..! Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong. It is painful sometimes to forgive yet it is so powerful that it brings a change that you always wanted to see. It eases your emotion, it clears the evil and it embarrasses the other person.

You don't need to wreak the vengeance. It may teach him (read, him/her) a lesson but it never lets you sleep. Start to forgive. It definitely teaches him the lesson. It is the best punishment one can give to others.

A line from Chanakya's Neeti Shastra says:
कोकिलानां स्वरो रूपं नारी रूपं पतिव्रतं ।
विद्या रूपं कुरूपाणां क्षमा रूपं तपस्विनाम् ॥

It says: The beauty of a cuckoo is in its notes, that of a woman in her unalloyed devotion to her husband, that of an ugly person in his scholarship, and that of an ascetic in his forgiveness.

Oscar Wilde once said: “Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much.”

Anon quotes:

Forgiveness is not always easy. At times, it feels more painful than the wound we suffered, to forgive the one that inflicted it. And yet, there is no peace without forgiveness.

When you forgive, you in no way change the past – but you sure do change the future.

We think that forgiveness is weakness, but it's absolutely not; it takes a very strong person to forgive.

Answer by Samidha Paroha:

Imagine a flock of sheep. Experiments have shown that when such a flock is presented with a hurdle, the leader jumps over the hurdle and the rest of the sheep follow.

This seems reasonable right? Yes, until someone suddenly removes the hurdle. Then it becomes weird, because the sheep continue to jump as if the hurdle was still present! The rest of the sheep keep on jumping even when there is no apparent need to do so.

They're like, "There has got to be a reason for this jump, because the one ahead of me just did it, so why bother finding out the reason." :-/

Humans aren't very different. We have seemingly picked up the Sheep Syndrome too!! We are fast learners, and we sometimes tend to learn the wrong things.

You can actually use this theory to explain a lot of things happening around you! This is a perfect explanation to all the superstitious beliefs we have in the name of religions. This theory also justifies monotonicity of a particular profession, for example Engineering in India.

Unfortunately most of us perceive like sheep, and sheep cannot survive, because they get slaughtered. Guess what! Ironically, the most valuable skill a human can have is not behaving like sheep! Funny, isn't it?
